NetXen Releases Certified Driver for VMware Infrastructure 3

NetXen, Inc., the industry leader in 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) adapter card port shipments and VMware Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) program member, today announced that its NX3 Series Intelligent NIC® driver is now VMware Ready™ Certified. This designation indicates that the device driver has completed the VMware Hardware Certification Program testing criteria for use with VMware Infrastructure 3 and is now listed on the VMware Hardware Compatibility Guide.

Based on NetXen’s third-generation NX3031 controller device, the NX3 line features two dual port 10GbE adapters: the NX3-20GCU with direct attach (twinaxial) copper interface, and the NX3-20GXR with pluggable SFP+ optical interface. These adapters deliver high performance with native PCI Express 2.0 support at 5.0GT/s, ideal for servers based on Intel’s upcoming Nehalem processor. The line also includes the NX3-4GBT quad port 1GbE adapter with a 1000BASE-T interface.

“NetXen effectively enhances I/O virtualization performance by greatly improving I/O bandwidth on virtualized platforms, enabling customers to scale to more workloads and greater numbers of VMs per system, and further reducing CapEx and energy usage,” said Bernie Mills, senior director, alliances programs at VMware. “We are pleased that NetXen is helping to deliver added value to customers by combining innovative technology with the significant business benefits of VMware virtualization, including lower operating expenses, improved business continuity and strengthened security.”

“Virtualization, multicore processors and high-performance networking are forming the basis of next-generation virtual datacenters,” said Vikram Karvat, vice president of marketing and product development, NetXen. “Our support for VMware Infrastructure 3 is built around NetXen’s NetSlice I/O virtualization architecture which is supported across our Intelligent NIC product line. This architecture provides a broad set of I/O virtualization resources that enable virtual machines to achieve significantly higher I/O performance than non-virtualized NICs.”

The VMware Ready program is a VMware co-branding program for qualified partner products and is a benefit of the VMware TAP program. With more than 900 members worldwide, the VMware TAP program works with best-of-breed technology partners to provide them a comprehensive set of VMware technical and marketing services, support, tools and expertise to deliver enhanced value to joint customers.

NetXen third-generation Intelligent NIC products are currently shipping to server OEMs and end user customers. The Intelligent NIC driver for VMware Infrastructure 3 can be found within the online VMware Hardware Compatibility List at http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.
