Synfora Achieves 250 Percent Revenue Growth, Expanded Customer Base in 2008

Synfora, Inc., the premier provider of algorithmic synthesis tools used to design SoCs and FPGAs, today announced that it had an increase in revenues of 250 percent in calendar year 2008, and that it significantly added to its customer base. Synfora said that the growth was fueled by the continuing worldwide acceptance and adoption of its PICO Extreme design tools, which has given it the leadership position in the video and imaging chip design market, and has paved the way for similar success in the wireless market.

In 2008, Synfora successfully deployed its design tools at multiple new customer sites in Japan, Europe and the U.S. During the year, the company negotiated several multi-year customer agreements, including corporate agreements with two of the top five semiconductor manufacturers. Synfora significantly increased its focus in Japan to address the large number of consumer chip designs being done there. It increased its application and sales team in Japan to provide local support, and launched its Japanese Web site with product and customer information. Synfora also increased its application and sales team in Europe, and expanded its development team by 25 percent during the year in response to the growing customer base.

Synfora announced PICO Extreme™, a breakthrough algorithmic synthesis technology that enables the implementation of dramatically larger and more complex sub-systems using an innovative TCAB (tightly coupled accelerator blocks) approach. PICO Extreme allows familiar design styles, reduces runtime and achieves unprecedented quality of results, including reduced power. Synfora also launched its PICO Extreme FPGA product, signed its first FPGA customer and joined the Xilinx ESL initiative, marking its entry into the fast-growing FPGA market. PICO Extreme FPGA is optimized for Xilinx high-performance 65 nm Virtex-5 and low-cost Spartan™-devices.

The company collaborated with Esterel Technologies, the supplier of Esterel Studio, to simplify the integration of application engines into SoCs, with Atrenta Inc., the provider of Early Design Closure® solutions, to ensure that the RTL output from the Synfora tools is compliant with Atrenta’s SpyGlass, and with CoWare®, the leading supplier of platform-driven electronic system-level (ESL) design software and services, to make the PICO Extreme models plug-and-play compatible with the Platform Architect design environment. Synfora continues to work with industry leaders in a wide range of areas, including C coverage tools, C-to-RTL equivalence checking and system-level simulation.

In 2008, Synfora also significantly increased its university program, including universities that are using its tools for FPGAs. Universities added to the program include:

  • Leiden University, the Netherlands
  • University of Toronto, Canada
  • University of California, Berkeley
  • University of Michigan
  • Rice University, Texas
  • IIT, Chicago
  • IIT, Delhi
  • IISc, Bangalore

“The market for high-level synthesis tools is accelerating as IC developers leverage technology to reduce cost and improve efficiency, and Synfora is delivering critical new features to reduce development time, IC area and power,” said Simon Napper, Synfora CEO. "We’ve expanded our sales and development capabilities to respond to the needs of both the SoC and FPGA markets, and made other moves to reduce our costs and improve our efficiency. This has paid off in the outstanding success we saw in the last year."

Synfora is exhibiting at the Electronic Design and Solution Fair 2009 (EDSFair2009) in Yokohama, Japan, January 22 – 23. For more information, please visit: http://www.synfora.com
